Hugo Chavez Influence in Oil North-American Interests

Igor de Freitas Vasconcelos

Abstract

This article discuss to which extent the nationalist speech stated by venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, since its ascent to power in 1998, and his style of conducting politics have confronted North American oil interests, having in mind Venezuela’s performance within OPEC. Chávez has adopted an ideological bilateral agenda instead of a pragmatic one towards the United States of America, making clear dispute points with the north-american business class and also its government.
